My work as an Integral Coach stems from a deep desire to help people and develop leaders.
In December 2018, after a successful, more than two-decades-long C-level career in the shipping industry, I faced a challenging setback and had a chance encounter with a coach practicing the Japanese art of Ikagi. He steered me onto this path, and I am grateful our lives intersected. I went on to study at New Ventures West in San Francisco and became a certified Integral Coach in 2020. I began coaching formally that year, and since then, I have guided dozens of clients to shift their way of being so they can connect to themselves and others in a rooted and more meaningful way.
Integral Coaching recognizes that much of our intelligence resides outside of our brain, in our heart and body.
The Western 21st-century lifestyle is steeped in disconnection, and can lead people to feel as if they are on a treadmill they cannot get off; the Integral Coaching method slows things down and instills a sense of embodiment and empowerment. Clients—from individuals to teams—come to me when there is some interruption in their personal life or career. These interruptions are the perfect gateway to deeper inner knowing. While it varies with each client, I employ such coaching methodologies as the Enneagram, Ikagi, and somatic breath exercises, while always holding space for them. My coaching programs are co-created with the client and designed with observable outcomes in 8- to 12-week timeframes; my role is more of a Sherpa, guiding the client’s way.
My personal story is one of corporate career transformation and willingly leaving behind something I had done for 25 years. It includes making the transition from business owner to working for the private equity owner of the multinational company that purchased us, as well as 14 years of recovery from alcoholism and divorce. The lessons I learned during that period made clear how you can change your life despite great fear and resistance. As I now look to grow my practice and amplify my impact in the world, I am open to opportunities to work with individual clients as well as businesses and teams who seek to be coached by someone who has been there.
As a lifelong resident of Oakland, I enjoy giving back to my community through my local volunteer efforts. When I’m not coaching clients, my greatest love is spending time with my children (Layla, 16, and Eli, 4) in the Sierra and Lake Tahoe, snowboarding, hiking, and swimming.
